Up To No Good
Annie doesn't like napping in her crib. She doesn't like it! She feels very strongly about this - the crib is fine for bedtime, but at nap time she'll cry if I put her in there. I don't like her not napping. I feel pretty strongly about this, but I don't really care where she naps, so we compromised, and she now naps on the floor of her room without complaint, all snugly on a folded up blanket and with pillows all around her to keep her contained. Here is a picture of her nice napping spot:
I was happy that we'd worked out a good compromise, and she's been napping peacefully in this spot for weeks. So you can imagine my surprise when I peeked in to check on her today, and found this:
Sigh. I guess maybe it's time to baby proof the baby room.

You aren't eyeing those cords, or electrical outlets are you? |

A nice weekend
I had a three day weekend for the MLK holiday. Annie and I took some walks and met up with a few friends, but mostly we just had a really nice time hanging out and playing with all her toys. She was happy to show off all the new tricks she's learned at daycare. She is getting really good at rolling around to get to her favorite toys. But she'd REALLY like to be able to crawl. She's working on it all the time, and sometimes even wiggles so much that she makes a little forward progress.

Food
Well, sort of - does rice cereal count as food? Here are the obligatory cute pictures of Annie's first feeding. She surprised me by loving it! I was fully prepared for her to spit each spoonful back out, but once she figured out what was going on, she got really into the eating and started complaining that I was going too slow between spoonfuls. Good job, Annabelle! Next week we'll move on to mashed up veggies, mmmm!

We practiced sitting in the high chair the day before. It went well, so today we moved on to the cereal. |

Baby's First Christmas
Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a happy Christmas week. Annie's week was full of quality time with family. We spent a lot of time with her cousins Max and Sierra (both 5 years old), and new cousin Henry, who turned 3 months old on Christmas Day. Annie loves her cousins - Max and Sierra will sing and cheer and put on musicals to entertain her. Henry is a super good natured guy, and didn't seem too upset when Annie tried to steal his toys, chew his elbow, and occasionally pull on his ears. Here are a few pictures from our week:

Grampa and Nana helped Annie open her gifts. She thought she should be allowed to eat the paper. |

Annie's favorite Christmas gift: on Christmas morning, she finally got her toes in her mouth! She'd been working on it for a week or so. Toes are awesome! |

It's nice to have a cousin your own age! Henry is smiling nice at the camera, while Annie ponders if she can chew on his shoulder from this angle. |
Who put my daughter in the turkey pot? I was not around for this, but I suspect Uncle Dan, based on his history ( check out this picture of Max when he was Annie's age) |
